  YOU "Rx"CEPTIONAL AWARDS

VHCF's You “Rx”ceptional Awards recognize the dedication and value

of Virginia’s Medication Assistance Caseworkers. You "Rx”ceptional nominees are role models who have provided excellent

service, commitment, and dedication to your Medication Assistance

Program and its patients/clients.

If you know of a Medication Assistance Caseworker who has made extraordinary efforts to obtain free medications for your patients or clients, please nominate him or her for a You "Rx"eptional Award. Winners are honored at VHCF’s Heroes in Health Care luncheon in

the spring.

Meet the 2008 You "Rx"Ceptional Award Winners:

Cathi F. Biggs

Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisburg, Virginia

Eight years ago, Cathi Biggs helped establish the Carilion Giles Medication Assistance Program.  She has dedicated herself to helping hundreds of uninsured with chronic illnesses who need medications ever since.  To date, Cathi and her team have enrolled over 1300 patients and obtained over $6.5 million in free medicines for them.

“Cathi Biggs is a phenomenal employee.  She is extremely self-motivated and directed.  She does a fabulous job, and the physicians and patients acknowledge her dedication and conscientiousness.” (Amy R. Westmoreland, RPh, Pharmacy Manager, Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital)

When Abbott joined Virginia’s RxPartnership (RxP), it generously added 15 essential medicines in 62 dosage strengths to the inventory available to RxP’s health safety net affiliates.  These included medications for hypertension, high cholesterol, thyroid problems, and seizure disorders.

In less than two years, RxP affiliates have provided nearly $1 million worth of these important Abbott medications to uninsured chronically ill Virginians.  In addition, Abbott’s Patient Assistance Programs provided more than $4 million worth of prescriptions to over 4,000 eligible Virginians in 2007 alone.
