Welcome
Every initiative undertaken or funded by the Virginia Health Care Foundation shares the same focus -- making primary health care more available to uninsured and medically underserved Virginians.

Initiated in 1992 by the Virginia General Assembly and its Joint Commission on Health Care, and built on public/private partnerships, VHCF touches the lives of thousands of Virginians every day.

VHCF's The Pharmacy Connection has generated more than $528 million in free medications for uninsured adults with chronic illnesses.
VHCF health safety net grants have helped provide more than 1.6 million patient visits to uninsured Virginians and to those in medically underserved areas.
VHCF dental safety net grants have helped establish 35 new dental programs statewide.

More than 41,000 uninsured children have been enrolled in state-sponsored health insurance programs (FAMIS and FAMIS Plus) through projects funded through the VHCF children's health initiative.

More than 70 additional providers are now practicing in Virginia medically underserved areas thanks to loans from VHCF’s Healthy Communities Loan Fund.

SeniorNavigator, launched as a VHCF initiative, is the state's leading resource for seniors, their families, care providers and caseworkers.

All VHCF-supported initiatives are built on partnerships. This has enabled the Foundation to leverage an average of $11 in cash, health services and other in-kind contributions for every dollar it has spent over the past 11 years.

While there are no simple answers for uninsured or medically underserved Virginians, community-by-community, the Virginia Health Care Foundation is making a difference. Come get to know us better!

Westmoreland Medical Center

Funding from VHCF has helped the Westmoreland Medical Center grow and flourish in the past 10 years, providing the residents of Westmoreland County with a medical home. An initial VHCF grant, in 1996, helped establish the medical center, located in Montross. A second grant, in 2002, allowed the facility to add a dental clinic. The most recent funding from VHCF enabled the center to add additional physicians and expand to include evening hours for medical care.
