Bright futures begin with healthy children.
Children who have access to regular
health care learn better, have a higher
quality of life and lower long-term
medical and dental expenses.
Early and regular health care also
helps prevent or lessen the severity of
many diseases, including heart disease,
hypertension, diabetes and some forms
of cancer.
One of the best ways to ensure that children have access to the care they need is to provide them with health insurance. VHCF's Children's Health Insurance Initiative helps do just that.
VHCF sponsors locally based Project Connect initiatives to enroll eligible children in Virginia's state-sponsored health insurance programs, FAMIS and FAMIS Plus. Since 2000, 44,000 children have been enrolled in state-sponsored health insurance by VHCF grantees.
In addition, through SignUpNow, VHCF provides training and technical assistance to community organizations interested in initiating and implementing enrollment activities
